TELEPHONE ACCESS
If you call the main office number, 919-681-8472, you can access the following features during regular office hours, 08:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on normal business days:
- Dial the extension number of any member of the staff to get to that person's desk. Keep in mind that if you dial to the desk and that person's telephone is busy, you will get voicemail.
- Press the # sign to reach the Office Telephone Directory. From there you can use the telephone key pad to spell the last name of the person you want to reach. Usually entering just the first three letters of the person's last name will be enough. The system will identify the person and transfer you to that desk.
- Press 0 (zero) to reach the central office number to speak to someone at the front desk or to have your call transferred in person. During very busy times, when absolutely everyone is helping someone else, and no one can answer your call, you will be able to leave a message “for the office” instead of for a particular person.
- Press 1 to go to a recorded message that gives our office hours and web site address. After you listen to this message, the system automatically takes you back to the main menu so that you can make another selection if you choose.
- “After hours” and “emergency” help. Before and after regular office hours, and on weekends and holidays, the telephone automatically transfers to an emergency number. If you have a true emergency, either the Duke Police or someone in the International Office will be available to help you during these times.
